TANGIBLE SHAN HILLS

Day 1: Heho – Kalaw (Cycling)                                                                                                   (L, D)

Upon arrival at the Heho Airport, you will be greeted by your guide and prepare for your cycling journey with a bike fitting.

Set off on the first leg of your trip, cycling from the airport to the former British hill station of Kalaw (approx. 50 km). Along the way you will pass through pine forests and both local and colonial-style houses. The slightly higher elevation means that the air temperature will probably be cooler.

Arrive in Kalaw before early evening and check in to your hotel. Dinner this evening is at your hotel.

Overnight in Kalaw.

Day 2: Kalaw – Pindaya (Trekking)                                                                                           (B, L, D)

After breakfast, transfer to trekking point by a local, open-air pick-up truck.

Today’s trek takes around 4-6 hours and passes through the beautiful mountains around Pindaya.

Along the way you will stop in several hilltribe villages where you will meet with the locals and observe their unique culture and traditional way of life.  Among the people you will encounter are the Palaung people. The Palaung are among the earliest inhabitants of Myanmar and are farmers known for growing the best leaves for Burmese cigars, cheroots.

You’ll stop for lunch in one of these villages and have a chance to rest your legs.

Continue through beautiful scenery this afternoon and more villages before reaching a Buddhist monastery where you will spend the night. The accommodation is modest (Mattress on the floor with sheets and blankets), but the experience is unforgettable.

Overnight in a monastery.

You’ll reach Pindaya mid-afternoon and transfer to your hotel for a well-deserved shower and rest.

Day 6: Pindaya – Inle (Cycling)                                                                                                   (B, L, D)

Trade in your hiking boots for your bike. Today you’ll enjoy a scenic ride to Nyaung Shwe, a small village on the side of the Inle Lake, one of Myanmar's best-known sights. (105 km)

The area around the lake is inhabited by the Intha people, a descendant of the Mon tribe, who live in stilted houses along the lakeshores and floating villages.

Upon arrival at Inle, transfer to your hotel for check in.

Overnight in Inle.

Day 7: Inle - Departure                                                                                                                 (B, L)

This morning board a private motorboat to head out to Inle Lake, one of Myanmar’s most spectacular sights. Pass villages built on stilts over the lake, inhabited by the local Intha people.  Observe the leg-rowing fishermen and see their floating gardens built up from strips of water hyacinth and mud and anchored to the bottom with bamboo poles. Visit Nga Hpe Chaung Monastery, which houses dozens of Shan Buddha Images, but is more famous for its unique ‘jumping cats’ who jump through hoops in the air!  Continue to Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the lake’s main sanctuary, which contains five sacred Buddha images covered in gold leaf.

After lunch, transfer to Heho airport for your onward travels.
